Is anyone able to interpret what this is all about on this guys service record please?

He's PTE. 28149 William Richard EASSON, 6th K.O.S.B, from Edinburgh.

After joining as a private, he was sent to Balliol College Oxford for a course of instruction with a view to becoming a commisioned officer.

He was later discharged as a private and commisioned as an officer, "for the benefit of public service".

That's great, thanks. His job on his service file is Actuarial Clerk - if I've read it right. Wonder if that had anything to do with being Commissioned?

Can't seem to find his Commission mentioned in the London Gazette though?

Looks like he went onto serve with the Border Regiment as a 2/Lt.

These records are not digitised so you will need to visit the NA in person or pay a researcher to look on your behalf.
