Remembered Today:

Is This Supposedly WW1 ARS 17 Really From WW1 Or Is It The Post War Variant?

I was wondering if this ARS 17 is the post war or WW1 variant. Can anyone help me, please?

If you do a search of ARS for the forum you will get links to a lot of posts on the topic of dating ARS masks. They were adopted in 1917 but the masks and tins were progressively upgraded through to the end of the war and continued to be upgraded between the wars and stayed in limited use until WW2.

From what I can see, yours appears to be a 1918 manufactured mask and tin, but I cannot give a definitive answer as ARS are not really in my area of expertise.

Cheers
