vanman Posted 28 March , 2023 Share Posted 28 March , 2023 Hi, inherited a few WW1 item that belonged to my great grandfather. Everything is kept safe from damage but Im asking if I should be taking any special precautions to preserve it? I would also appreciate any info on the flag. Thank you for your time,
travers61 Posted 29 March , 2023 Share Posted 29 March , 2023 (edited) I would also appreciate any info on the flag. The coat of arms on the flag is that used by the Princes of Wales from 1841 -1910. The shield in the middle representing the Kingdom of Saxony & the Princes descent from Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert. On the opposite side to the dragon there may be the Prince of Wales feathers symbol. https://monarchy-of-britain.fandom.com/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_the_Prince_of_Wales It looks like a maritime flag of some kind, but without the cross of St George maybe not naval, so could be from a royal yacht or one of the prince's racing yachts ? travers61 Posted 30 March , 2023 Share Posted 30 March , 2023 The flag is the Victory Loan Flag awarded to counties, municipalites and districts in Canada who raised their quota of money in the 6th Victory Loan Campaign from 1919. For the 6th campaign the Canadian nine province badge was replaced by the then outdated Prince of Wales coat of arms as the campaign coincided with a visit by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) to Canada in 1919. For every 25% over their quota they received a Prince of Wales Feathers emblem to add to the flag. Places of work also took part in the scheme & sources I have seen vary as to wether they received flags or pennants. image from crwflags.com https://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/ca_vlf.html#ww2-7 http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/en/explore/online/posters/bonds.aspx Travers
