David_Blanchard Posted 26 March , 2023 Posted 26 March , 2023 I am looking for a citation for a DCM won by Private Burns of one of the Field Ambulances of the 7th Division. I would also like to find out more about Burns. The award mentioned in Colonel Swan’s diary for 2 December 1914- he was the ADMS of the 7th Division. David

David_Blanchard Posted 26 March , 2023 Author Posted 26 March , 2023 clk, that’s brilliant thanks very much. This will help in my research into the role of FAs during First Ypres. Will also check WD of 7th Division on the same day. David

Peter I guess these foreign medals were just handed out (so many for a certain unit) and then the unit decided to give it to whomever they wanted. I would say there is a big chance the medals were connected as they may have considered that what he had done was quite exceptional. Perhaps the WD still gives some extra information? Jan
clk Posted 27 March , 2023 Posted 27 March , 2023 Hi David, FWIW the 7 Division A&Q diary names the officers that were presented the DSO by the King during his visit, and eluded to in the diary extract of Colonel Swan.
