Sir Henry Conway Belfield- British East Africa

Sir Henry Conway Belfield (KCMG, JP) was the Governor of the East Africa Protectorate (British East Africa, today Kenya) during WW1.

Concurrently, he filled the post of High Commissioner of Zanzibar during this period

He is pictured here (sitting) on the front lawn of Government house in Nairobi in about 1913.

I am trying to identify the person standing next to him but not having much luck.

Can any of the friends  perhaps offer some advice on the uniform worn by the soldier and possibly link him to any Unit(s) which may have had a presence in Nairobi at the time.

Could it be that this man was assigned to the Governor's Office as a member of the Colonial Office personnel?

Any assistance will be appreciated

This is astounding Michael..... I owe you a great debt of gratitude.

Just out of interest, did his uniform help in identifying him or was it the fact that he was assigned to the Governor's office that did the job?

Thank you very much indeed.
