DaveNich Posted 6 April , 2005 Share Posted 6 April , 2005 On the MIC of Arthur Davey of the 2nd Monmouthshire Regiment his first rank is given as Boy. What age would you be in the territorilas to have the rank of boy? He went out with the Battalion in November 1914. Thanks David
scott henderson Posted 20 April , 2005 Share Posted 20 April , 2005 David. This might be of some help. I am part way through reading With A Smile And A Wave, the life of Captain Aiden Liddell VC MC, 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. In the book a boy bugler [bugler Ditcham] gets quite a few mentions, he was at the front with the rest of the battalion and is stated as being only 14, too young to bear arms but with his battalion all the same. The storey only concerns the early part of the war, the early battles of 1914 etc, and i am not sure for how long the practice of letting boy soldiers into line went on in the war. Anyway, i hope this has been of some help. Scott.
