Hi

WWI Trio impressed:

198623 J.A. GAINES LS RN

Royal Fleet Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal impressed:

198623 (PO A 6049) J.A. GAINES L.S.R.F.R.

Can someone let me know the meaning of "(PO A 6049)"

Is there an easy (ie cheap) way to find his Christian names. Also have his QSA as AB on H.M.S. GIBRALTAR.

Thanks

Duncan

Hi Duncan

That’s a nice group.

(PO A 6049) was his service number in the Royal Fleet Reserve.

His Christian names will be on his Register of Seamen's Services, that can be found in ADM 188/344 at Kew. It is free to view there, just as the MIC are free to view there or at the Family Record Centre.

Thanks Fred

It's a long drive to Kew from Sydney.

Duncan

True, but some nice pal might do a look up for you, if you only want the Christian names.
