Remembered Today:

Water tank

Recommended Posts

recently acquired a galvanised, riveted oblong tank, previous owner thought it was for water in trenches!? there is a large brass filler cap on the top, crows foot stamped, no dates or any other data, makers plate unreadable. I have never seen one before not sure even if it is a trench water tank?

There are carrying handles on both short sides, and is very sturdy, will upload photos later.

Cheers

Fresh water supply in the trenches was a real logistic problem for all sides.

It was what made the official description of the early armoured fighting vehicles as 'tanks' so immediately credible, whilst in manufacture and transit to the front, .
