Hi,

I am trying to see what Units were Raised in Rothbury/Coquet Valley and where recruiting/Mustering would have taken place.

Kindest Regards

Chris

Westlake cites Rothbury and Alnwick ‘F’ Company 7th Northumberland Fusiliers (TF) and ‘C’ Squadron  Northumberland Hussars Yeomanry.

The Drill Hall now a community centre Jubilee Hall

No doubt as a County Regiment the regular Battalions would Recruit there, although during WW1 most of the Battalions were raised in Newcastle,

It appears the 3/9th Durham Light Infantry were billeted there in 1916 (BNA)

Hi,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply.

This would make the Jubilee Hall the Mustering point for the TF both 7th NF and NHY

I know the NHY used to hold their Annual Camp at Ingram (The Breamish Valley, known locally as Ingram Valley).

The 14th Bat NF Pioneers trained on the moors North of Rothbury as the remains of the practice trenches they dug are clearly visible.

Where in Rothbury were the DLI billeted?

Kindest regards

18th (Service) Battalion (1st Tyneside Pioneers) Northumberland Fusiliers also trained on the moors North of Rothbury.

They were billeted in the County Hotel.

I don’t know, it may have been a tented camp.

There are a number of newspaper accounts, cricket matches, comforts etc as well as a couple of soldiers up before the magistrate for minor offences. The first I found wasDecember 1915 and throughout  1916.
