ianw Posted 19 June , 2003 Share Posted 19 June , 2003 Item in question is a quarter inch thick square section 6 inch long nail - railway sleeper use ? - with a hand made 1.25 inch diam. British helmet atop it. The whole thing looking like a giant thumb tack ! Sorry no picture. Must confess, I haven't seen anything similar. Any particular use or significance to it ? Guest Hill 60 Posted 19 June , 2003 Share Posted 19 June , 2003 I suppose it's too big to be a hat-pin, maybe for a woman with a very big hat?
Paul Reed Posted 19 June , 2003 Share Posted 19 June , 2003 Sounds like a piece of MOTH memorabilia - Memorable Order of Tin Hats?
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 20 June , 2003 Share Posted 20 June , 2003 OK think back to the 1910s/20s, how about a spike for bills as in an office or shop? Not used today of course. Ian
