Remembered Today:

Does anyone know the structure of a Matrosen-Artillerie-Regiment?

Would be very helpful, am quite stumped trying to discover what or how many battalions they would have, more specifically for the Nr. 1 Matrosen-Artillerie-Regiment, or if they followed naval or army ranks. Thanks.

The Marine Korp ground units aren’t my specialty, but based upon the unit’s Verlustliste, naval ranks were (generally) used.

You could try the book German Naval Infantry in World War 1 by Dirk Rottgardt. Published by the Nafzinger Collection in Ohio USA. For instance page 22 covers the Expansion of the Matrosen-Artillerie-Abteilungen, as do a number of other pages. There are two copies available in abebooks.com currently. I'm sure it will provide you with the answers you seek and hours of reading fun. Looks like there were 17 Battalions by the way. Nr. 1 rates numerous mentions.  Artillery calibres are also provided.

According to the Ehrenrangliste der Kaiserlich Deutschen Marine, the Regiment had 3 battalions

Thank you so much, though I'm stumped by attempting to decipher what the fraktur exactly says, especially with "Batteriebes." and "Maschgem(k?)omp." of which the latter sounds like a machinegun company but not sure. Also Boots(k?)an.Batt., and the 1 Art(K?)omp.

Sorry.

Komp(agnie) = Company

Art(illerie)Komp(agnie) = Artillery Company

Masch(inen)Gew(ehr)Komp(agnie) = MG Company

Batteriebes(atzung) = Battery garrison. Presumably for a coastal battery

Bootskan(nonen) Battery = A Battery using light field guns which were kept on ships for use by landing parties, now land based.

Hafenkompagnie Zeebrügge = presumably a guard company for the port of Zeebrügge

Hope this helps
