John William "Paddy" Cook, a 22 year old shop assistant, joined the East Riding Yeomanry on 31st August 1914 Regimental no. 1516.  He proceeded overseas with the Regiment in October 1915, arriving in Alexandria at the end of November 1915.  After serving with the Regiment in the Fayoum Oasis during 1916 he was compulsorily transferred to the Imperial Camel Corps on 26th June 1917.  However he contracted TB in November and was repatriated to the UK in December 1917.  He was discharged from the East Riding Yeomanry depot as medically unfit for further service on 17th January 1918.  He was entitled to a pair and SWB no. 401737 (post 1917 Regimental no. 50328).  Sadly he died of his TB at home in Studley Avenue, Hull on the 9th June 1919.

Most of mine were submitted three years ago, nice to see the adjudicators tackling the backlog of older cases.

Quite a few from the Liverpool/Sefton area in addition to Carruthers:

FARRELLY and MURPHY buried at Liverpool (Ford) Roman Catholic Cemetery
BEECH, BRISCOE and CUNLIFFE buried at Bootle Cemetery
BALL buried at Birkdale Cemetery
SEDDON buried at Great Crosby (St. Luke) Churchyard
HASKELL buried at Liverpool (Everton) Cemetery
DAVIES buried at Liverpool (Anfield) Cemetery

Murphy and Davies were both service deaths.

Thanks for the update Terry and the work you do.

It always feels special when one of your Lads is accepted, especially as in this case a fellow Sapper, .R.I.P. Arthur, Never Forgotten.
