Jenanne Posted 21 February , 2023 Share Posted 21 February , 2023 My grandmother was in France - inn Abbeville- in 1917, part of the YMCA. I’d like more info if possible on Abbeville as a centre, women working there as part of YMCA. I think at one point she was some sort of driver. 4thGordons Posted 21 February , 2023 Share Posted 21 February , 2023 Quick question was she in the BRITISH YMCA organization or the AMERICAN? -- I am not sure how the two relate to be honest but I have access to some sources for the US side of things but not the British. Admin kenf48 Posted 21 February , 2023 Admin Share Posted 21 February , 2023 This podcast will be of interest https://www.westernfrontassociation.com/the-latest-wwi-podcast/ep-146-the-ymca-during-ww1-kathryn-white/ I follow Kathryn but she's not updated her blog for some time (hope she's OK) but it's still active and lots of stuff if you follow the link at the top of the podcast page. Also the British YMCA site https://www.ymca.org.uk/about/history-heritage/ymca-and-ww1 As for Abbeville for much of the war it was it was the HQ for Commonwealth lines of communication, and the location of a number of hospitals http://throughtheselines.com.au/research/abbeville It remained an important base throughout the war. Jenanne Posted 22 February , 2023 Author Share Posted 22 February , 2023 That is great. Thank you. Now I,m wondering where she was before Abbeville. Her brother was in the Flying Corps. Just wondering if they were ever in the same area.

Jenanne Posted 22 February , 2023 Author Share Posted 22 February , 2023 How would I find out where she went after Abbeville? It might have been London but I’m curious why she was there for such a short period.
