I recently bought a us doughboy helmet that had been repainted by the previous owner, I want to restore the helmet but i don't know how the helmet would exactly be painted and i don't want to eye ball it based off of images because i tried that on a us m1 and had to start over after the paint i used was way to light.

Hi dinoclj2006. Welcome to the forum. Does this help... the description states it is the exact replica paint https://www.ima-usa.com/products/spray-paint-u-s-wwi-helmet-green-brown-acrylic-enamel-spray-paint

Also for texture, coarse granular sawdust was added to the original paint.

A contemporary book gives a detailed account of the manufacture process. Helmets and Body Armor in Modern Warfare, by Bashford Deane 1920

it can be read on line or downloaded at https://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/Helmets_and_Body_Armor_in_Modern_Warfare
