pooter Posted 4 April , 2005 Share Posted 4 April , 2005 I am helping someone identify her relative's punishments which are described as initials. Here they are:- "Offence ..unshaved on parade the punishment is 4 Days PB or CB" I think CB is 'confined to barracks' but, just in case, does PB mean anything? What would 'confined to barracks' actually mean to the soldier? Thanks in advance.
michellemcleod Posted 5 April , 2005 Share Posted 5 April , 2005 YES CB implies confined to barracks, and is a punishmment given whereby the soldier may not leave their post/Base for the period of time given (ie often over weekends) They must carry out duties issued to them by their superior (ie cleaning ablution blocks, scrubbing floors etc or whatever they deem fits the soldiers crime) Often it involves marching to perfection, chores, strenuous duties, kitchen duty etc as well. PB I personally have not heard of in the military...someone else may know this one??? It could mean Parade Barracks or Panic Barracks...A panic is a term used to imply a chore (ie have you done your panic, meaning have you done your chores, I guess it was referred to as such to put the fear of god into knowing your panics would be checked by Sgts etc) Parade Barracks would also mean cleaning your barracks/rooms during your confinement etc to a state whereby it satisfies your superior...just guessing this PB but someone else may like to add their opinions also. michaeldr Posted 5 April , 2005 Share Posted 5 April , 2005 CB – ‘Confined to Barracks’ fits the context here On records PB may mean Permanent B Class ie unfit for trenches And would not fit in this case Regards Michael D.R.
PhilB Posted 5 April , 2005 Share Posted 5 April , 2005 Perhaps Punishment Barracks as in:- we were taken back to camp under escort, and at night evidence was taken for a Field General Court Martial. Particulars having been taken, we were eventually taken to the Field Punishment Barracks at Boulogne, a disused fish-market near the Quay.
