R.A.F gallentry medal

I'm looking for information about my grandfather's WWW1 gallentry medal.he received the medal as he served with the R.A.F. there was only 90 medals issued .and my grandfather was one of them.

Welcome to the GWF. What was his full name and service number? Which medal do you think he got?

Could we see the full photo? I believe they've been mounted wrong [I can see a Victory Medal where a British War Medal should be]
Service Date: Feb 5th, 1916 [enlistment?]
The AC 1 must be Aircraftman [Class] One..

He was a dispatch rider on the front line in ypes.belgium.

According to the above, No.1 Balloon Section, of 18th Balloon Company, of 3rd Balloon Wing RFC (later RAF).

Thank you. That's so interesting. I.ll read up on this later. My grandfather was a dispatch rider on the frontline in ypes.belgium. amazing he survived.

As well as his LG MM entry he is on this RFC/RAF MM list on the BMF: https://britishmedalforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=791750&hilit=white+20827#p791750

One post on that thread says that "most of the RFC and RAF original recommendations have survived at Kew". I'm not sure if that is true. Hopefully!

Another post on that thread:

"The majority of MM's to RFC were awarded as wireless operators on the ground under shellfire, only a small number were awarded as aircrew."

His RAF record confirms he was a Motorcyclist.
