LejoSilfverhjelm Posted 6 February , 2023 Share Posted 6 February , 2023 Hello there! I made an account on this site to hopefully get to the bottom of this uniform's origin. I was given this uniform in a suitcase about 4 or 5 years ago and I was told it was a Polish uniform but I haven't had any luck finding where it came from. hoping I might find some answers with the experts
FROGSMILE Posted 6 February , 2023 Share Posted 6 February , 2023 (edited) It is in the style of a Husaren (Hussar - a type of cavalry that originated in Hungary). The type of tunic worn by Husaren is called an Atila (after Atila the H_u_n, a famous military leader). The likely era would be the late 1800s to the turn of the century perhaps. However, I’ve never seen one so crudely made, and it looks more theatrical than capable of service use in the field. The trousers are also too loose and with a waist that looks almost as if fitted with a draw string. I enclose an example from an Austro-Hungarian Husaren unit. They were usually worn there with red breeches or pantaloons. Notice the cloth and the lining, all are important in determining origin and weather genuine. It was a period when most clothing was hand made. Most such uniforms are made from wool. Before WW1 there were Poles in the Russian, Prussian and Austro-Hungarian military.
