Help finding a Kiwi soldier

I have a copy of a book Trench Yarns by "Peter".

Inside there is a name Corp J Burns No 53466 33rd Reinforcments.

As I am in New Zealand and I am aware of the NZ 33rd Reinforcements, I am wondering could there be be a British equivalant and Corp Burns be from there as I have had a hard time finding records of him here.

Any help would be much appreciated as if he is a New Zealander I would like to return the book to his family and if he is from overseas I would like to do the same.
