clive_hughes Posted 4 February , 2023 Share Posted 4 February , 2023 Hello, Does anyone by chance have a photo of a war grave in FINS NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, Sorel-le-Grand, France, as follows: Plot V, Row F, Grave 16 28618 Pte. William David Williams, 18th Bn. Welsh Regiment. Killed 1 July 1917. I've just been able to link this man (born and enlisted in South Wales) with the town of Beaumaris on Anglesey and a nearby parish. Didn't find him earlier as his name was rendered "D.W.Williams" (no other information) on the one memorial locally on which he was mentioned; and because his Soldiers Died and dependents pension details only reference his birthplace, enlistment, and their later South Walian addresses. As a boy he and his family lived for some years in and near Beaumaris, By sheer chance, after his death they must have told contacts on Anglesey, and a brief note appeared in a 1917 Welsh newspaper, which cutting I found in a scrapbook! Even that gave a wrong regiment and slightly wrong address, but perseverance paid off, so I'm now able to correct and amplify that particular record. No extra information was added to the CWGC stone or register, but I'd appreciate an image if it's available. Thanks, Clive
