Hi

One of my wife's ancessors was a John Wilson who married Mary Ann Davidson in Bristol on 17th April 1915. On the marriage certificate he is given as age 21, 'Mechanical Engineer, Corporal, 11th Scottish Rifles' and his residence was 'The Camp, Sutton Veny, Warminister'. [His father's name was John Erskine Wilson] We also know that he is on his son's birth certificate for 6th April 1919 as the informant, living at 26 Albany Rd, Walton, Liverpool.

This is the only definite information we have, but a check through the Medal Card lists does give a John Wilson, Corporal, 11th Scottish Rifles, Regt No 14735, awarded the 15 Star and SWB (Roll reference looks like D/H/78) as well as Victory & Britain medals. It also gives '20th Sept 1915, France' as Qualifying Date & Theatre of War. This ties in with his date of marriage and the 11th SR going to France. The Medal Card also has 'Dis' on it but no date.

We are trying to find out:

(a) when & why he might have been discharged

(B) any information about where he enlisted, where he was born, next of kin etc.

At the moment we have a blank wall in trying to trace him back. We assume he is from the Hamilton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire area because of his connection to 11th SR, but there are a lot of John Wilson's on the 1901 census!!!!

If anyone has any information or ideas of where we might get som more definite information, we would be very grateful

Mike
