Hi All,

can any one recommend a good place in UK to browse and/or purchase postcards. ( not e-bay)

A good place to look would be at any Stamp and Postcard fairs that are held in your local area. There are usually postcard dealers who attend these and you can sometimes find some gems, although the days of buying stuff for pence have long since disappeared! Another place to look would be junk shops as they sometimes have cards that have been collected from house clearances.

Thanks Andrew for the info. The problem I have is that those sort of Fairs don't exist within 10,000 miles of where I live. I am visiting UK from the 8th of July so hopefully I might be able to find such a place.

If you're near Retford in Notts, the Friday market has two or three military specialists, medals especially (ever fancied your own Legion d'Honneur?) including a bloke with some 1000 postcards. I look regularly and they're always interesting and they do keep on the move. But I wouldn't think any mail order! All the antique fairs have similar.

Uh-oh - just overlaped with your later note - so mine is a bit useless, I guess.

Is there anything in particular that you are looking for? I have a collection of photographic postcards at home (about 800), so if there are any general "types" that you are looking for, I may be able to help.

I collect postcards (ww1 naturally!) and have found http://www.ebay.co.uk to be a super resource for buying and selling.

I have been able to purchase complete correspondance and help to keep collections of papers togther buying through eBay.

Mole postcards is another great internet based postcard seller.

FS auctions used to have a few postcards but you don't see too many on there any more.

http://www.speedbid.com/ specialise in militaria and I have had postcards and books from there before.

eBay is by far the best place to go I reckon.

While you are in York you must visit Stonegate Antiques in the city centre (not far from the shambles.)

It has boxes full of postcards including first world war.

Well worth a visit.
