michaeldr Posted 3 April , 2005 Share Posted 3 April , 2005 Those with an interest in the records of the RM, RN, RNVR & RNR may wish to take a look at the useful guide-sheet provided by Capt Roy Swales which gives details of the documents held at the Fleet Air Arm Museum. The last page gives details of access including ‘phone and fax numbers plus website and e-mail address Royal_Marines_Service_Papers_at_The_Fleet_Air_Arm_Museum.doc

per ardua per mare per terram Posted 3 April , 2005 Share Posted 3 April , 2005 Thank you for posting this, it has extended my knowledge of these papers enormously, I’ve always been given the impression there was very little of value in these holdings. Jim Strawbridge Posted 23 April , 2005 Share Posted 23 April , 2005 I have made enquiries as to the records of females and had the following response. ------------------------------------------------------------- Our Ref:: RRC2005/0256 Dear Mr Strawbridge Thank you for your e-mail regarding the service records we now hold. Unfortunately they do not contain any records for the various womens services. As far as I am aware these are likely to be at The National Archives, Kew. At the time when we aquired the majority of the RN Engagement Papers I believe the WRNS Engagement Papers went to the RN Museum, Portsmouth. Thank you for your enquiry. Yours sincerely, Jan Keohane(Mrs) Archivist 01935 842628
