This post is to make GWF members aware of my proposal to create a feature documentary about Frederick Demmler, (1888–1918), a young, talented artist from Pittsburgh who was killed during the liberation of Olsene, Belgium, in late October 1918. The film is being made with support of members of the Zulte/Olsene, Belgium, History Group, who helped me to find the spot in a farmer’s field where Demmler was mortally wounded by high explosive and lay unattended from dawn to late afternoon on October 31, 1918. The film has great drone footage of Flanders Field American Cemetery, and the battlefield, plus an interview with FFAC administrator Richard Arseneault. Demmler was a talented portrait artist whose career was tragically ended far too soon. If you would like to receive further details about the film and how you might get involved, please send me a PM.
