I wonder how he obtained what appear to be German sourced cards. The one of the Kaiser with a sort of fires of Hell backdrop gives a distinctly Satanic impression, which seems an odd thing to do.

As mentioned above the source of the cards is intriguing, I’d imagine they would have  come from an ex German trench or dugout. I wonder if his mother proudly displayed them on the mantelpiece?

Coming from an art/design background I think the artwork of the second card is fabulous.
