Unlikely if he volunteered 1915 for the RE, even if it was for  less than 3 weeks. More likely his physical grading?

Many thanks Charlie. Interesting place of service. It was obviously a major medical hospital for the African theatre in WW1. His BWM survives:

Medical Services General History. Vol I may be of interest. It covers Sierra Leone in Chapter XVII.

Archive.org have it as an online read or as pdf download. I think this link will work but otherwise you'll have to search archive.org for it. My phone won't let me access the site!!

Or, perhaps if my link doesn't work someone may provide another.

There is no indication on his record. This enrolment form for non combatant service is from April 1916

Non Combar Corps enrolment copy.pdf

His protection certificate shows medical category B1 on discharge, unfortunately we don't have his medical examination on enlistment but as suggested it may have led to his discharge from the RE.

It works - I was reading it earlier, not a theatre of war therefore no Victory Medal.
