harmless7567 Posted 7 January , 2023 Share Posted 7 January , 2023 Hello, Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, but I figured I should start somewhere. I am considering restoring in some way a 1956 Dutch helmet that I have and was wondering what I should do. (From my very limited knowledge I think it is similar to a MK1 maybe MK2 Brodie helmet, not entirely sure which version, I haven't done much research on the topic.) I figured I would ask here as I have seen some topics regarding the restoration of Brodie helmets. I would mainly like to stop/remove the rust. I don't know if I should paint it after that, how to best get it looking better, or if I would be best just leaving it alone. This is where I could use some suggestions. I have attached pictures of said helmet. I have the original liner which is in decent condition but the pictured one is a repro I got as the original was too small. Thanks! (Also if anyone has cool history behind this that would be cool to hear as well.)
peregrinvs Posted 7 January , 2023 Share Posted 7 January , 2023 This will shortly be locked as it is off topic, but I would just leave it alone. If you want to try and remove some of the surface rust, you could try rubbing it with a cloth impregnated with some general lubricating oil.
