woronora Posted 27 December , 2022 Share Posted 27 December , 2022 Hi I have this photo of a Private John Lynch. I am wondering if anyone could tell me if his uniform is WW1 or WW2? Many thanks in advance. Cheers John
4thGordons Posted 27 December , 2022 Share Posted 27 December , 2022 I am not expert enough to be definitive but - absence of puttees suggests post WWI to me (as does the general tone of the pic) He is wearing a pattern 1908 (the WWI standard) belt but I suspect these continued in Australian service into the early days of WWII. Interestingly, it looks to me as though his bayonet scabbard is a double seamed version, and IF SO (experts can weigh in), and IF it is an Australian made double seam scabbard then that would make the picture post 1920. (double seamed scabbards were produced much earlier in the UK but not until the early 20s in Australia) Chris
tankengine888 Posted 28 December , 2022 Share Posted 28 December , 2022 It is definitely WW2, you can tell by buttons and just the style. Mods will no doubt lock this, PM me if you want to continue. Zidane.
