jagjetta Posted 1 April , 2005 Share Posted 1 April , 2005 Thank you for the bandwidth... I have a WWI "carte postale" photo of a soldier identified in period pencil as "Farrier H. Roberts No 12672 A.S.C. Horse Transport Dep 372 Coy S11 APO B.E.F. France" I cannot figure out what unit this is as I am unable to find reference to a 372 Coy of the ASC. Am I misreading the inscription? Can anyone offer any advice? Second question, is his cap badge actually a Warwickshire Regiment badge? Thank you, John A-G Iola, Wisconsin USA
michaeldr Posted 2 April , 2005 Share Posted 2 April , 2005 John, Col Michael Young’s history ‘ASC 1902-1918’ in his Annex Q gives the following ASC Co.372 formed 9 June 1915 - Absorbed into 22 L of C Supply Co. (date unknown) Theatre/Order of Battle; Western front, Boulogne, L of C Troops Role in WWI; 5th Auxiliary (HT) Company PRO file ref; WO95 4163 This PRO file ref is also that given his Annex R for Lines of Communication Units 22 Auxiliary Horse transport [However, the ASC Company number quoted there is 879 This company was formed 1st April 1917] In any event WO95 4163 should be the place to start looking Regards Michael D.R.
