Remembered Today:

All Saints, Fulham

An affecting memorial here, from All Saints Church, Fulham. I can’t recall seeing a list as here, with alternating fonts for the several names. Perhaps the intention was to make each name more individual, and not just another entry on a long list. What Sassoon called, “these intolerably nameless names”.

A very nice triptych, I can see what you mean UG. Thanks for posting, do you have any connection to the names on it?

Pete.

Hi Pete - nice to hear from you again. No, a friend lives in London, knows my interest in these things, and sends me photos every now and then. I confess I wasn’t aware of the Church Lads’ Brigade. The Boys’ Brigade I knew, but …

Things are a little bleak over at WIT, I can’t help but notice.

And you mon oncle. The hiatus over on WiT? is likely down to a) that Mr Plumb is diverted by musical activities and also with identifying places rather than people, which is my fault too, and b) that we have probably done everyone who was ever photographed during the Great War.

Have a cool Yule,

Pete.

P.S. Every time I look at the memorial triptych it gets more impressive.

I would hazard a guess that the names in italics are those who died.

Maybe but I don’t think so - the names are (mostly) in alphabetical order.

I have Never Ever seen alternating fonts.

(see what I did there?)

Nice to see that the triptych has been repaired - when I was there in 2012, the wings couldn't be opened, so all that could be seen were the WW2 names.
