Help deciphering/understanding service record

Hello,

I'm trying to decipher and understand the meaning of the following line on one of my ancestors service records. It's the second line, right after the note of being attested, and it has the same date.

"Resumes?" 5th ???? of CPD? 40?"

He was 37 at the time he joined up and he'd apparently previously served in the RFA Territorials although that's another mystery I've yet to get to the bottom of.

Any help is appreciated!

I think it's "Resumes 5th rate of C.P @ 4d"

P will be pay and the amount will be 4 pence - not sure about the C. :)

Cheers,
Peter

In 1915 as a (re-attested) Pte in the RAMC he would be eligible for basic pay of 1s 2d a day .......... plus an additional proficiency pay if he was assessed to have fulfilled certain service and qualification conditions.  If successfully assessed the RAMC increment would range between 4d and 1s 2d per day according to that proficiency.

I would therefore offer that the "Resumes 5th rate of C.P @ 4d", as identified by PRC, refers to the 5th (lowest rate) of (RAMC) Corps Proficiency (C.P.) pay as set in 1915 ...... which is "@ 4d"
