Camps and hospital facilities around were located between a place labeled "St. John's Cross" and "St. John's Bridge" spanning over the Poperinge Canal. Would this be related to St. John's Ambulance? Saint John/Sint Jan has had a pretty high profile presence in Poperinge area since the Middle Ages. The references may be ecclesiastical and pre-date the Great War?
