Hi,

Having spent all morning looking at the LG for this officers MC citation I give up. According to Find my Past this Canadian born officer should have been in:

LG:29898/10 Jan 1917(C)

I don't use the LG site often - maybe its me (this could well be the case) - but is it clunky and hard to use? Anyway if anyone can help me find the citation I would be ever so grateful.

Simon

Page 460 of edition 29898, Supplement to the London Gazette, 10th January 1917. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29898/page/460

He was serving with a Trench Mortar Battery, so likely to have been either a Medium Trench Mortar Battery of which there were usually three attached to each Divisional, or a Heavy Trench Mortar Battery, all serving as part of the Divisional Artillery.

Cheers,
Peter

There are annotated citations at TNA which sometimes have the date and place of the action written beside it.

Thanks for this Ivor. It's likely me but the LG site always seems difficult to me. I knew about his service record and there is a copy on its way to me.

cheers,

Chris - thanks for this. Can I please ask what search terms you used to find it? When I put this officers name in I get a medal card and service file but nothing else. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Simon,

The MC index cards and annotated citations are buried away in the WO 389 series. In the case of your man, the card is on p1505/2425 of this free download, and the annotated citation on p35/162 of this download.

Regards
Chris

Well that was interesting & I freely admit I had no idea that was possible, never mind free. Now safely book marked.

Chris - thank for sharing.
