michaeldr Posted 28 November , 2022 Share Posted 28 November , 2022 (edited) Remembered Today on the Great War Forum 2635 Private Alfred John EVANS "A" Coy The London Regiment (Territorial Force) 2/3rd (City of London) Battalion (Royal Fusiliers) who died 28th November 1915 and is buried HILL 10 CEMETERY, Gallipoli, Turkey From Ray Westlake's 'British Regiments at Gallipoli' 'During the great thunderstorm (26th November 1915) … the men were at first amused to see No Man's Land turned into a lake. The water, however, quickly rose and flooded the trenches … “standing on the firestep the men were quickly up to their waists in water.” Many suffered as a result of the blizzard that followed – 50 drowned or died of exposure, over 300 evacuated with frost bite. An effective strength of 6 officers, 50 other ranks remained.'
