Recovery and inspection of downed German aircraft.... what was the procedure?

Anyone wise out there to guide?

I was reading "September Evening" book by Barry Diggens, about Werner Voss' last flight. In it there is reference to the crash site being inspected some weeks after by Lt Barfoot-Saunt. The DR1 being new thus I guess of more interest. A report was created from the inspection I guess for Farnborough AID? I note Barfoot-Saunt also inspected and reported on Richthofen's DR1 in 4/18.

I cannot find anything much about the process of recovery and inspection of crashed enemy planes. It obviously happened a bit as at the end of the war there was an exhibition at Royal Agricultural Hall of downed craft.

Anyone know what that process was by whom and where??
