Heartfeltzero Posted 24 November , 2022 Share Posted 24 November , 2022 The photo comes from the estate of a WW1 Veteran of the Fussartillerie-Batterie 1003. This battery operated an L/40 24 cm railway gun in WW1 and fought in Flanders, Belgium, ca. 1917-'18. The photo, taken by the Veteran during the war, shows the destroyed forest of Houthulst, between Staden and Diksmuide, Flanders, Belgium.
Interested Posted 24 November , 2022 Share Posted 24 November , 2022 It says the postcard was published in Stuttgart, so would it be a German photograph originally?

The veteran was German. He likely had many of these postcards made from his original photo in stuttgart.
GreyC Posted 24 November , 2022 Share Posted 24 November , 2022 G.A. Krauss (Adolph Krauss, owner) was not the publisher. It was a shop for photographic equippment with a darkroom. So they printed the photo. It is not certain that the photo was taken by the guy from the battery himself. Photos like that were often for sale in the Etappe (photos were oftzen sent home to be developed and printed and then send back to the front or Etappe).
