Pals,

Can anyone give me a SDGW look up for the following man

Hadden A Pte

Kings Royal Rifle Corps

R/8272

Date of Death 15/09/16

Many thanks - His MIC indicates KIA, but I would also like to know Born and Enlistment details if available in order to confirm the other set is his brothers bu cross referencing the 1901 Census.

Many thanks in advance

James

James,

If you need any help with the Census(es), just shout and Stephen Nulty, Myrtle or I will come running!

I wonder why a Londoner enlisted in Inverkeithing and then ended up in the 60th Rifles. He may have been working in the Rosyth Dockyards, but I would sort have assumed he would have wound up in a Jock outfit. Which battalion of the 60th was he in? Only for interest; it seems an interesting case, and I wonder how many other chaps ended up enlisitng far from home.

Mind you, in the last lot an uncle of mine, from Newbury, ended up in the 5th Seaforths, so I shouldn't be that surporised. And yes, I know blokes got sent "Quo fas et gloria ducunt", but even so, why enlist in Inverkething when you live in Clapham?

Many thanks Tom and Steve. I am, like Steven intrigued about him enlisting in Scotland but still residing in Clapham ?!

Steve, could I take you up on your ancestry offer ? What I want to do is to prove, near enough that the medals I have from 2 individuals with the same name are brothers. I have recently obtained them and want to check if this is the case as I will then ensure they are kept/sold together.

The other person is Hadden Harry E - 196611 Royal Scots Fusiliers

Does it tell you what the A in the KRRC man stands for ? The MIC is silent on this point ?

Could you have a check and see - I have looked on the 1901 Census but cannot prove that they are from the same family.

Many thanks in advance.

CWGC site gives Albert Hadden as his first name. R/8272, Lance Sergeant, 7th King Royal rifle Corps, Died 15/09/16, Theipval Memorial.

Sorry, no Albert & Harry Haddens in the same household anywhere in 1901.

Steve.

Steve,

Many thanks - can't believe I missed the Albert on CWGC. Interesting though, seeing as the t sets came together. May well be connected, but thank you for looking.

An interesting action, James, attacking from Delville Wood following up the first tank action! Phil B

Phil,

I have to confess that I was unaware of the significance until I received some very interesting information from a KRRC specialist this morning, who sent me a transcript of the 7th Bn War Diaries for the few days covering this period.

What could one expect this Trio to fetch on the market ? - I bought them knowing they were were more than the description indicated - but not realising the full significance, with a load of other pieces solely with a view to moving them on to try and cover recent spending on my other interested areas and to placate my Wife ! Given the significance of the action in which this man died I am strongly considering keeping them as you don't come across things like this that often.

It is a shame that the Harry E Hadden can't be confirmed as his brother.
