Hello to all,

I am desperately looking for the photo of these soldiers:

15979 Private M. Martindale, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regt. died 9th April 1916, aged 24

15461 Private Alfred Edwards, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, died 3rd Nov. 1915, aged 22

any assistance appreciated. Thank you very much.

Your best chance is to look in newspapers of the day from the area they lived. Many hundreds or even thousands of photos were printed in newspapers. The best dates to look are just after they died or if nothing was printed for either of them, then you will have the long drawn out trawl through newspapers right from the start of the War.

Its a ball ache, but it can be worth the effort.

You could contact the local archives, sometimes they will search the newspapers for free for you.

Yes, sometimes but not always. My local Library will do 30 free minutes of searching for you. Some others are unlimited, some charge from the first minute.

To perhaps help you and other members - details to search newspapers [from pension cards/ledgers at WFA/Fold3 - also at CWGC]
