busterwood Posted 4 November , 2022 Share Posted 4 November , 2022 Brothers in Arms….. While researching my Great Uncle, I came across an article from the local history group. All the below mentioned were Leyland Church Lads Brigade. All joined 12th Bn Kings Liverpool Regiment, all around a similar age and of course friends. All Attested within days of each other, some the same day same place. Can someone advise me on Service Number nomenclature as all joined reasonably together same Regiment? But as you can see the Service Numbers are quite different to three and the other two. When I joined up in 1981 all of us had very similar numbers, even two of us having consecutive numbers as we recruited at the same Careers Office. I’m puzzled to say the least as these Soldiers were truly “Brothers in Arms” as CLB Boys & Regiment served with Thank you, your help will be appreciated Geoff 14690 Lance Sergeant Thomas Banister 12TH KING'S (LIVERPOOL REGIMENT) 1st September 1914 Southport 18152 Lance Corporal Arthur Bowling 12TH KING'S (LIVERPOOL REGIMENT) 5th September 1914 Preston 14836 Sergeant Sidney Bretherton 12TH KING'S (LIVERPOOL REGIMENT) 1st September 1914 Southport 18607 Private Robert Heywood 12TH KING'S (LIVERPOOL REGIMENT) 4th September 1914 Preston 14811 Sergeant Arthur Parker 12TH KING'S (LIVERPOOL REGIMENT) 1st September 1914 Southport
nhclark Posted 28 November , 2022 Share Posted 28 November , 2022 Geoff, I'm pretty sure that the various recruiting centres were allocated blocks of numbers for their new recruits. Here you can see Southport in the 14000s and Preston in the 18000s. It had to be done this way because so many men were presenting themselves to enlist.
