JMB1943 Posted 29 October , 2022 Share Posted 29 October , 2022 Is it known how the colour was specified? Did the War Office send out sample pieces to the contractors, or was the colour specified in the official paperwork as that produced by a certain dye? GRANVILLE Posted 31 October , 2022 Share Posted 31 October , 2022 I think you will find the equipment was universally produced in the natural 'buff' colour of unused webbing and then the colour it became was dependent on the directives within the regiment concerned - as dictated by the commanding officer and as a result of blanco being applied. I'm not sure when certain colours were first available or made use of but obviously you have green or buff and the shades the equipment eventually took on would depend on the amount of times the equipment was treated, the state it was in each time it was worked on etc etc. David
JMB1943 Posted 31 October , 2022 Author Share Posted 31 October , 2022 (edited) Granville, Thank you for your explanation regarding the colour. I must admit that I had not considered the natural colour being buff; no wonder that nobody has been able to present documentation.
