Remembered Today:

Major then Col. T E Fielding RAMC Diary- brilliant

I am desperate to find out more about Major then Colonel T E Fielding. I know he served in the Boer War and was OC 7th FA then promoted in August 1915 to DADMS 3rd Division- I don’t know what his initials stood for- but he was very candid and had a very dry wit when OC of 7th FA.

First entry from early June 1915  and then later that month

A couple of examples.

Thanks, Charlie. I think when he was promoted to DADMS in August 1915, he became more ‘official’ sadly. Tried to download 1914 diary of 7th FA last night, but NA site playing up. I love to find a photograph of him.

Excellent find, thanks again Charlie. I may have a copy of the Sphere for that date.

Irish Independant 3/7/1915 has this, courtesy Findmypast. With his family connections to Dublin, there are quite a few mentions in Irish papers.

Letters written by him when serving in South Africa are held in a SA archive!

They might be as amusing as the diary?

T E Fielding qualified as a doctor in Dublin. At the time of the South African War he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps and sailed for South Africa in June 1900. On his arrival he was sent to the hospital at Newcastle and later served in other areas of Natal and Zululand.

A very interesting character. My main interest, at present, is casualty evacuation from east of the Ypres Salient. TE Fielding drew this map in the ADMS 3rd Division WD in September 1915.

Indeed it is!

Eventually downloaded the 1914 WD of 7th Field Ambulance- more matter of fact, but still one or too gems courtesy of TEF.
