Enhancing WW1 photos

I have a number of photos to the NZEF and wondered if there is any way to improve resolution and overall quality?

Below are a couple of examples.

Try them on MyHeritage website. They have a nifty little tool on there

Thanks very much, it worked very well on some of them.

I don't know what tool MyHeritage has, but if you have access to a photo-editing program (Photoshop or similar), then applying a Gaussian 'blur' tool will reduce/remove the halftone dots in the second photo, which probably resulted from preparing the original for publication in a book or newspaper.  Mild sharpening will improve it further. The attached photo is my quick attempt with these edits. Less is generally more with these types of edit, and the end result comes down to personal preference.

Thank you very much for your efforts and information. That is a subtle improvement, much better than some of the overdone images from My Heritage.
