charlie962 Posted 14 September , 2022 Share Posted 14 September , 2022 (edited) There's an Alexander Quelch b 1900 Genoa? Who has a card for Mercantile Marine and British War medals. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7964735 Same man appears on a 1915 crewlist https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14670835 Edited 14 September , 2022 by charlie962

ernest james Posted 14 September , 2022 Share Posted 14 September , 2022 (edited) Hi Lexxie I found merchant seamen records for Alexander Quelch, born Genoa, Italy 1900 TNA have a WW1 merchant seaman medal card for him which detail two medals for him. Discharge no : 995032. RS2 No 23267 He appears to have an address in Leytonstone, London at this time findmypast have a CR10 record card copy for him from 1918 from BT 350. There is a (poor) passport style photo of him . He signed on for a voyage on "Zero" in Dec 1918 and appears to still be on the ship in Nov 1919 Is this your man? best wishes ernest james Edited 14 September , 2022 by ernest james added date to "zero" service
lexxie Posted 14 September , 2022 Author Share Posted 14 September , 2022 Does that mean he wasn't entitled to a 15 star for his service?
charlie962 Posted 14 September , 2022 Share Posted 14 September , 2022 You haven't confirmed that this is your man nor have you given source for your 14/15 Star thinking?

horatio2 Posted 14 September , 2022 Share Posted 14 September , 2022 The Medal Roll for the Mercantile Marine Reserve (MMR) has : Arthur QUELCH, Fireman, medals earned in ST GEORGE. He claimed and was issued with a 1914-15 Star trio of medals. There is no Alexander QUELCH on the MMR roll.
charlie962 Posted 14 September , 2022 Share Posted 14 September , 2022 It does help to know if we are looking for an Alexander, an Arthur or just A. !
lexxie Posted 14 September , 2022 Author Share Posted 14 September , 2022 Just A on the star
ernest james Posted 14 September , 2022 Share Posted 14 September , 2022 I think Horatio 2 has the best match with Arthur. There are a series of online merchant seamen records before and after ww1 for this man but nothing during it. If you want a photo of Arthur Quelch, born 1884, Ryde, Isle of Wight , fireman. then findmypast have a reasonable copy.
