Guest fairytopia Posted 27 March , 2005 Share Posted 27 March , 2005 I've got the medal card for my great grandfather and on the list of medals it says 15 star? I thought it would be 14/15 or just 1914. Couls someone explain please? Lisa.
Terry Denham Posted 27 March , 2005 Share Posted 27 March , 2005 It is just a bored clerk's shorthand for 14/15 Star. There was no 15 Star.
Stebie9173 Posted 27 March , 2005 Share Posted 27 March , 2005 Hi Lisa, Found the card then? An explanation for the campaign medals (and the cards) is here: http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchive...v.uk/medals.asp He would "only" have qualified for the 1914-15 aka 1915 Star because he didn't arrive in France before 22 November 1914. Those soldiers that qualified for either the 1914 Star (also known as the Mons Star, after the 1914 battle) or the 1914-15 Star have a notation of the date that the "entered a Theatre of War" i.e. landed in France or wherever, and the Theatre that the entered - probably (1) F&F - France and Flanders for James. Did you find any other useful info on the card? Steve
