RIDGE Posted 1 September , 2022 Share Posted 1 September , 2022 France 25/1/1915. Pte. Patrick Ridge S/11910 Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders 1st btn. was wounded at La Bassee & died 3 days later in no.1 clearing station. Relative says he was bayoneted in chest & when his belongings were sent home to wife & 4 kids, there was a bloody hole through his pay book which was kept in his breast pocket. Wondered if Patrick mentioned in war diaries 25/1/1915 or the actions of QOCH 1st btn. on this date. Also, where bayonet attacks very common WW1? You tend to think of gunfire, explosions, shrapnel and later, using gas. Also, did no.1 casualty clearing station keep entries of wounded? Many thanks from Patrick's grandson, Jim. Admin Michelle Young Posted 1 September , 2022 Admin Share Posted 1 September , 2022 Highly unlikely to find any casualty records I’m afraid. And again, war diaries seldom mention other ranks, but you can check for yourself, free after you register, also free. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14052697
