Rayessex Posted 30 August , 2022 Share Posted 30 August , 2022 Good evening, all. Came across a Trio belonging to Dvr Huggins R.A. Wondering if anyone can advise Ref engraving. The '14' Star seems correct but the engraving on the rim of the other two seems odd. What does the RFRA before the number mean? Not come across this before and seems odd, especially as R.A. appears after his name! Name thanks. Ray
RNCVR Posted 30 August , 2022 Share Posted 30 August , 2022 (edited) Nothing wrong with either naming. RFRA is the prefix to his official number. His Unit was RA (Royal Artillery) A mate will be along shortly to 'translate' the prefix for you @FROGSMILE@Matlock1418? Rayessex Posted 30 August , 2022 Author Share Posted 30 August , 2022 Many thanks. All I could think of was Royal Field, Royal Artillery. But I knew that it did not make sense.
58 Div Mule Posted 30 August , 2022 Share Posted 30 August , 2022 Naming looks fine to me and appears impressed not engraved. I’ll have a look at Howard W’s tome (which is brilliant). 58 DM.
Matlock1418 Posted 30 August , 2022 Share Posted 30 August , 2022 Thank you for your very flattering confidence in plugging me - but not my specialism really! However this GWF thread has as Royal Field Reserve Artillery M

I understand technically the medals are not engraved, but impressed - the letters and numbers were mechanically pressed into the metal [engraving appears to have common associations with non-period/non-pukka medals] M

Slips can happen even when one knows better! - I once had a senior moment and said they were embossed!! I was swiftly corrected - and I was glad of it!!!!
