Raster Scanning Posted 29 August , 2022 Share Posted 29 August , 2022 Private Reginald Frank Ives, known as Bonic. 1/5th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Pictured in his tropical uniform, late WW1. He enlisted as a Bedfordshire Territorial in 1912 and saw service at Gallipoli from 10th August 1915. He would later see home service during the Second World War. Reginald Frank Ives served as a Private (No. 2897 later 200058) with ‘A’ Company, 5th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment in Gallipoli from 10th August 1915, he returned to Cairo on 7th November 1915 being admitted to the Citadel Hospital, he re-joined his unit on 23rd January 1916, and was again admitted to hospital sick on 13th April 1916, re-joining his unit on 22nd June 1916 and being appointed Drummer on the same date. He later relinquished this appointment on 19th February 1917. Re-admitted to hospital on 9th April 1917 he was released on 5th July 1917. Remaining in Egypt throughout, he was finally demobilised on 24th May 1919 having been shipped to France from Port Said. Ives’ medals were sent to 34 The Broadway, Bedford which was the address of The Dolphin Public House (now a pizza restaurant). In 1939 Reginald was recorded as the licensee.
