The Australian Prime Minister, Billy Hughes was not a fan of Wilson.

It is reported that after the Versailles treaty was signed that the ship to take Wilson back to the USA hit a mine and sank. When told Hughes said that this was "bad luck", when told that Wilson was not on board "that is terrible news".

He may have got the idea from Disraeli who, when asked the difference between misfortune and calamity, replied "If Mr Gladstone fell into the Thames, it would be a misfortune. But if someone dragged him out, that would be a calamity."

Mr Disraeli had a meticulous turn of phrase. Always good for an amusing quote, a great pity we have no politicians of this calibre
