Admin DavidOwen Posted 19 August , 2022 Admin Share Posted 19 August , 2022 I have the Victory Medal to the above individual inscribed M.Z.1754 W.J.Shearer Sig. R.N.V.R. Looking at his service record he was discharged from RNVR 19/6/1918 to take up a commission in RAF (Image courtesy TNA.) Can anyone point me towards his RAF record? (I have found a William Shearer transferred from RNAS/RNVR but it isn't him as too old). Thanks as always.

horatio2 Posted 19 August , 2022 Share Posted 19 August , 2022 Although approved for discharge (the entry only shows approval, not an actual discharge) to RAFon 19 Jun 1918, the fact that he was still a naval signalman when demobilised from the RNVR on 29 Jan 1919 and the lack of an AIR 76 RAF record (for an RAF commission) must make one question whether the RAF transfer actually took place.
