clive_hughes Posted 28 July , 2022 Share Posted 28 July , 2022 Hello, I have a casualty from Anglesey (F.H.Jones, 81002) who was killed in action in the Salonika theatre 27.2.17 as a member of the 2nd Garrison Battn. King's Liverpool Regiment. I know they arrived in that theatre in Jan. 1917 and were seemingly Lines of Communication troops until being taken on as part of 28th Division the following August. Since I don't usually expect to find Garrison units in the Front Line, can anyone suggest what happened at that date which resulted in his being an "action" casualty? I don't have access to the unit war diary online. Clive

Gardenerbill Posted 29 July , 2022 Share Posted 29 July , 2022 I agree with David, the second bombing raid by a newly arrived German bomber Squadron targeted Summer Hill Camp just outside Salonika on the 26th. The bombers were engaged by 17th and 47th Squadrons R.F.C. (From my own notes).
clive_hughes Posted 29 July , 2022 Author Share Posted 29 July , 2022 Thank you both for that - that's the sort of explanation I was looking for. Much obliged, Clive
