John(txic) Posted 27 July , 2022 Author Share Posted 27 July , 2022 AOK - there seems to have been a bit of a muddle here. The chap I am researching is indeed 3533. The CWGC have 3533 on the Thiepval Memorial, dying on 1.7.16 - but "Soldiers Effects" has his date of death as 16.7.16 whilst a PoW at St Quentin. There is also a newspaper story noting the death of 3533 H C Nicholls as a PoW in St Quentin; his family must have been informed of that fact by the ICRC, I presume. Presumably the paperwork has been shuffled somewhere along the line; after all, they had a big job to do.... I have raised the matter with the CWGC.
